Taxi Transfers To and From Montego Bay Airport

Sangster International Airport is serviced by Ordinary, Route, and Chartered taxis.

An ordinary taxi cab, known to locals as Red-Plates, operates like a normal taxi, picking up passengers along the way and charging according to the distance traveled.

It has a licensed red plate and can only charge a maximum of $10 per ride, to comply with the government mandate. Service hours are Monday to Sunday from 06:00 AM to 07:00 PM.

Route taxis have the label “ROUTE TAXI” along with the fixed route painted on one side of the vehicle. The travel distance for this type of taxi is very short but it is also very affordable with a fare rate amounting to $1 per ride.

Chartered taxi cabs offer various services from airport transfers to tour packages to different tourist attractions. Please ask assistance from the Airport Information Desk for your safety.

Chartered taxi rates would be dependent on several factors such as distance traveled and passenger count. Services are rendered 24/7.

When riding taxis in Jamaica, make sure to confirm the price with the driver first before agreeing to the trip. Make sure you have all your belongings before riding or alighting the taxi.

Taxis at Sangster International Airport

Many passengers arriving at MBJ take taxis to reach their destination.

Passengers who wish to take a chartered taxi cab to their destination can head on over to the Authorized Airport Taxi desk located just outside the Customs exit.

There are currently two taxi companies authorized to operate at Sangster. Representatives from either the taxi companies or the airport can assist passengers in getting a taxi cab.

On the other hand, if you wish to take an ordinary taxi cab or a route taxi, these two options can be found at the taxi stands right outside Customs.

No need for any booking or reservation arrangements when riding ordinary taxis and route taxis.

Hotel Shuttle Services at Sangster International Airport

Most hotels in Jamaica include airport pick-up and drop-off in their services. On the other hand, some offer hotel shuttle services for an extra fee.

It is recommended to book your hotels in advance to confirm their hotel shuttle services.

Hotel shuttles are parked in the coaches’ area outside the Arrivals hall, near the on-site gas station. If you are having trouble finding your hotel shuttle, contact your hotel immediately.

Ride Shares at Sangster International Airport

Rideshares are a growing trend on the island. The apps for hailing a vehicle can easily be downloaded and installed by passengers.

Many use ridesharing for the security feature of the GPS. You can monitor exactly where you are and where you are going even if it is your first time on the island.

Hailing a vehicle via rideshare apps once you arrive at MBJ may result in higher fare rates since you will be competing with passengers.

An option is to wait a few minutes for the vehicle demand to decrease, resulting in lower fees.

Another option is to book a vehicle before you land. Some rideshare apps have scheduling features, which could be handy in avoiding the crowd during peak hours.
